Irish Flute • Tin Whistle • Low Whistle • Introducing Tin Whistle
Katie is a flute and tin whistle player from Camross in County Laois. She began learning music from the age of seven with her local Comhaltas branch in Camross and went on to receive a BA in Music from NUI Maynooth, a Masters in Irish Traditional Music from the University in Limerick and a Masters in Music Education from Trinity College Dublin. As a secondary school music teacher, Katie loves to promote Irish traditional music in schools and give students who may have not had the opportunity to take part in the tradition to explore and learn about it. She is a member of the Grange Céilí Band from Laois, which has won two Leinster titles and was runner up in the All-Ireland Senior Céilí Band Competition at Fleadh Ceoil na hÉireann in 2022. Katie has taught music in a number of different contexts, including privately, in schools and for Comhaltas branches.
‘I believe that music is so important in all aspects of life. I love working with developing musicians, helping to build their confidence and getting them to engage with all aspects of the tradition. My students are encouraged to learn through performance as well as by listening to other musicians.’
