FAQs about

Enrolment with the New School

How do I enrol myself / my child?

Enrolment for lessons and courses with the New School is straightforward. When you have decided what to enrol for, you simply complete the relevant enrolment form. These can be accessed directly in the Enrolment • Fees section of this website, and there links to the appropriate enrolment forms from all Instrumental • Vocal Departments pages as well as all group course pages. You can also complete a hard copy enrolment form in the school office.

If you enrol yourself or your child for private (one-to-one), partner (two students) or small group (three or four students) lessons, we will then find available lesson days/times based on your preferences and contact you for tuition fee payment. If you enrol yourself or your child for a group course or workshop, you should either phone the school office on (01) 478 1884 as soon as possible after submitting your enrolment form to arrange payment or select payment by online invoice on the enrolment form and do so as soon as possible, as we can’t hold places in group courses and workshops provisionally. (If the New School is physically closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, please phone us on our mobile number – (086) 869 5415 – instead.) Tuition fees can be paid over the phone, in person or we can send you an invoice to be paid online.

Can I choose the day and time of my / my child's lessons or course?

For private, partner, small group and Intensive lessons, prospective students are asked for their day/time preferences on the enrolment form. We will do our best to suit these preferences, subject to teacher and timetable availability. If we are unable to do so, you will be contacted with alternative days/times available, and if we are unable to offer you a suitable day/time, no tuition fees will be taken. Group courses take place at set days/times; if more than one class is offered, please choose the day/time that you prefer.

Can I enrol at any time?

Although enrolment before the start of term is recommended to guarantee a place on our timetable, we offer continuous enrolment and students enrolling for private, partner or small group lessons may do so up to four weeks before the end of each term (subject to teacher and timetable availability). Students enrolling for an ensemble may do so up to two weeks after the ensemble starts each term, and students enrolling for group courses may do so (provided that there is a place available) up to the second week of the course. Tuition fees for late-enrolling students are pro-rated and depend on the number of lessons or classes remaining in the year or term.

Can I enrol for more than one instrument/subject?

Yes, and a number of our students do. We also offer 10% discounts off 30-minute private lessons in a second instrument or subject, 20% discounts off our Music Fundamentals and Sight Singing Made Easy courses for students concurrently enrolled for other tuition with the school, and 20% discounts off the following ensembles, for students concurrently enrolled for other tuition with the school:

However, you should keep in mind the amount of time required for practice or study each week in addition to your tuition.

Do I have to re-enrol every term or year?

If you are a year-enrolled student, you are guaranteed your place on our timetable for the entire year. Term-enrolled students are sent links to re-enrolment forms two to three weeks before the end of each term. If you wish to continue your or your child’s lessons, we ask you to complete the form and return it to us, along with the tuition fee, to arrive no later than one week before the end of term, in order to reserve your or your child’s current place on our timetable for the next term. For the new school year, we require that all students – those re-enrolling as well as those new to the school – fully complete new enrolment forms. Enrolment cannot be confirmed and students cannot be scheduled until we receive a completed enrolment form and applicable tuition fees (or payment plan arrangement, if applicable).

How can I pay for my / my child's tuition?

We accept full tuition fee payments and payment plan deposits in cash, by credit/debit card or by bank transfer. We accept payment plan instalments through online invoices only. If you would like to pay by bank transfer, Please contact us, and we will provide you with our bank details. If paying by bank transfer, please do so well in advance so that the payment will arrive in our bank before your / your child’s tuition is due to begin. Also, be sure to identify clearly who is making the transfer, and send us confirmation that you have done so.

There are three options available for making a payment by credit/debit card:

  1. You can make the payment in person.
  2. The school administration can take your card details by phone, process your payment and send you a receipt.
  3. The school administration can send you an invoice for online payment.

I'd like to start or continue tuition here but can't afford to. What can I do?

You can apply for tuition assistance for lesson or course fees based on your financial circumstances. Although the number of tuition assistance awards each year is limited, every effort will be made to assist those students who would otherwise be unable to study at the New School. The range of tuition assistance awards is between 10% and 40% of the total anticipated tuition fees for those who qualify.

See our our Tuition Assistance Policy for more information and our Tuition Assistance Application to apply for tuition assistance.
