Congratulations to the winners of our 26th Annual Martin A. Walton Memorial Scholarship Competition!
This year’s Competition took place in the New School for the first time in three years, on Sunday, 22 May 2022.
The winners are:
Young Student of the Year
FIRST PRIZE
& Full-Year Scholarship
Sha Weng • Piano
(Varo Khachatryan • Teacher)
The adjudicators commented on Sha’s ‘great ability to express the music’, ‘attention to detail’, ‘well executed ornamentation’, ‘good flow’ and ‘natural and effective dynamic control’.
SECOND PRIZE
Jing Yi Zhang • Piano
(Sarah Cunningham • Teacher)
The adjudicators commented on Jing Yi’s ‘beautiful tone’, ‘excellent dynamic control’, ‘beautifully expressed dynamics’ and ‘lovely presentation’.
JOINT THIRD PRIZE
Simon Jovetic • Piano
(Sarah Cunningham • Teacher)
The adjudicators commented that Simon had a ‘good feel for the music’ and ‘lovely communication’, and that his playing had ‘a story-telling feature’.

The adjudicators commented on Wilson’s ‘excellent dynamic control’, ‘impressive presentation’ and ‘clear communication’.

The adjudicators commented on Livia’s ‘solid phrasing’, ‘skilful articulation’, ‘lovely tone’, ‘beautiful and clear upper range’ and ‘good acting’.

The adjudicators commented on Wei En’s ‘lovely dynamics’, ‘great confidence’, ‘impressive communication’, ‘natural presence’ and ‘mature control of her instrument’.

(Andriy Blyznuk • Teacher)
The adjudicators commented on Daniel’s ‘good technique’ and ‘impressive accuracy for such a young age’, as well as his ‘fantastic overall impression’.
THIRD PRIZE
Michael Elioutin • Piano
(Andriy Blyznuk • Teacher)
The adjudicators commented on Michael’s ‘lovely articulation’ and remarked that his performance ‘had a variety of interesting touches’.
